From pleasant to dangerous to downright hot, Fresno residents experience every type of weather throughout the year. If this persistent drought has caught your attention, check out the Lee’s Air Weather Cheat Sheet to help you navigate the ups and downs of Fresno’s ever-changing weather.

1. Navigating Fog Season
Fresno natives are more than familiar with the dense fog that creeps in and out on winter days. If you’re new to town, or just visiting, there are a few things that you need know to travel safely and comfortably coexist with central California’s seasonal fog.

While driving, if road visibility is diminished, say yes to headlights and no to “brights” or high beams. The intense light will only reflect off of the moisture in the air and back into your eyes. If your car isn’t equipped with fog lights, stick to your regular headlights and a safe driving speed.

A few more good suggestions are to turn your radio off (you may hear things that you can’t see), drive predictably and leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you (don’t be tempted to follow those taillights too closely).

2. In the Middle
Spring and fall are great times to live in Fresno. The mild, Mediterranean-like climate is what makes our part of the San Joaquin Valley a fertile spot for orchards and vineyards. For a comfortable home, set your thermostat to an efficient temperature. Your home will be free from overwhelming humidity and your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard in the summer.

3. Too Hot to Handle?
Sure, we haven’t seen a 115-degree day since 1905, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get hot in Fresno. We know it can get dry! For your safety and comfort, be sure to drink plenty of water in the warmer months. Dry air will rob your body of moisture, making hydration even more important.

For summer energy savings, make use of those ceiling fans and set your thermostat to a more efficient temperature. The wind chill created by your fans will compensate for the few degrees or so higher that you set your thermostat to. Bonus savings are in store for the homeowner who utilizes their programmable thermostat to make efficient adjustments when they’re at work or away from home.
