So how often is “regularly?” Well, that depends on a few things. If you suffer from allergies or have a pet – particularly a dog that sheds a lot – it’s smart to check your air filter once a month. (Make it simple on yourself – set a monthly reminder in your iPhone!) If it’s dirty, change it. For the rest of you, most energy-efficient organizations recommend changing your filter once every three months during non-peak months and once a month during summer and winter.
This keeps your filter clean, meaning air can flow freely to your HVAC season – and that means your system doesn’t have to work as hard to keep your home comfortable. (And the benefits of that will be seen on your electric bill.)
Let’s put it in terms of a delicious treat. You ever order one of those super-thick milkshakes and get a skinny, flimsy straw? If so, you know you get a headache quite quickly while straining to get the milkshake through that straw. That’s how your AC works with a dirty filter.
Just some friendly advice from Lee’s Air. Keep your filters clean! Your HVAC system (and banking account) will thank you!
